He held the title of <b data-path-to-node=\"4\" data-index-in-node=\"150\">3rd Viscount of Porto Formoso<\/b>, a noble title created by decree on 26 January 1871 by <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lu%C3%ADs_I_de_Portugal\"><b data-path-to-node=\"4\" data-index-in-node=\"235\">King D. Lu\u00eds I<\/b><\/a><\/span> in favour of his grandfather, <a href=\"https:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jacinto_Fernandes_Gil,_1.%C2%BA_Visconde_de_Porto_Formoso\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Jacinto Fernandes Gil, 1st Viscount of Porto Formoso<\/span><\/a>, a prominent figure in 19th-century Azorean society and economy.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5\">With his passing, one of the last great figures of the Micaelense rural land-owning class has disappeared. He\u00a0<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">owned extensive and renowned agricultural estates in\u00a0<strong>Achada das Furnas<\/strong>, regarded as among<\/span>\u00a0the most productive and well-organised in the Azores. He played a significant role in the development and modernisation of farming in S\u00e3o Miguel.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"6\">Between 1939 and 1973, he served as\u00a0<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">President of the\u00a0<strong>Casa do Povo do Livramento<\/strong>, an institution he was a primary driving force behind<\/span>. He held this presidency for over three decades, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to the social and community life of the parish. Throughout his life, he also held positions in various organisations and associations related to agriculture and livestock, distinguishing himself through his sense of responsibility, dedication, and practical expertise in the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7\">His funeral took place at the <b data-path-to-node=\"7\" data-index-in-node=\"30\">S\u00e3o Joaquim Municipal Cemetery<\/b>, following a Requiem Mass celebrated at the chapel of the Cl\u00ednica do Bom Jesus in Ponta Delgada.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jacinto Fernandes Gil J\u00fanior, widower of Clementina Tavares Fernandes Gil, passed away on 6 May 1983, at the Cl\u00ednica do Bom Jesus in Ponta Delgada, at the age of 79.
