The golden years of his career as a journalist were lived between 1937 and 1975, a period in which he was the editor-in-chief of both the \u00abA\u00e7oriano Oriental\u00bb and \u00abCorreio dos A\u00e7ores\u00bb newspapers. A municipal employee, Manuel Ferreira, practiced journalism and served as a commentator with a fervent autonomist spirit in a time prior to the professionalization of newsrooms.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5\">After the 25th of April, he dedicated himself to fiction, writing what is still his most famous work today, \u00abO Barco e o Sonho\u00bb (The Boat and the Dream), a tale inspired by a true and desperate story of emigration of two young men from S\u00e3o Miguel to the United States, through a dangerous crossing of the Atlantic in a small handcrafted vessel. This work was adapted for television by <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jos\u00e9 Medeiros<\/span>, with an RTP-A\u00e7ores series that helped to further immortalize the narrative.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"6\">His vast bibliography also includes other works of historical and literary research, centered on the Azorean reality and Ponta Delgada, including titles that document emigration, social life, and the culture of the islands.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7\">Manuel Ferreira was highly decorated for his contributions, receiving the Autonomous Insignia of Recognition of the Region and the Municipal Gold Medal for the 460th anniversary of the city of Ponta Delgada. He is also an Honorary Citizen of the municipalities of Vila Franca do Campo and Santa Cruz das Flores. Since 2008, he has also had a street named after him in Ponta Delgada.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\">His work and his contribution to Azorean culture were subsequently recognized and valued by various writers and scholars of the islands&#8217; literature, including <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/On%C3%A9simo_Teot%C3%B3nio_Almeida\">On\u00e9simo Teot\u00f3nio Almeida<\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jos%C3%A9_Henrique_%C3%81lamo_Oliveira\">\u00c1lamo Oliveira<\/a><\/span>, and <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Daniel_de_S%C3%A1\">Daniel de S\u00e1<\/a><\/span>, who highlighted the importance of his writing in the preservation of the Azorean social and cultural memory.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\">His funeral took place after a funeral mass at the Sant\u2019Anna Chapel in Ponta Delgada, proceeding to the S\u00e3o Joaquim Cemetery, where the body was cremated.
