António Augusto da Motta Moniz

António Augusto da Motta Moniz passed away on 6 May 1973, at the Clínica do Bom Jesus in Ponta Delgada, at the age of 66. He was the husband of Maria da Conceição Ponte Motta Moniz. A native of Ribeira Seca, in the municipality of Ribeira Grande, he was a widely esteemed figure in his region. He served as Vice-President of the Ribeira Grande Municipal Council between November 1958 and November 1959, and was subsequently appointed President of the Council, a position he held until March 1969 with a profound sense of responsibility and dedication to the service of his homeland. In recognition of his work and his contribution to the municipality, the Municipal Council named a street after him in the city of Ribeira Grande, thereby perpetuating his memory within the urban landscape. He was also a member of the board of the Caixa Económica da Ribeira Grande for several years and, as a former sportsman, dedicated himself to the development of the local sporting movement. His funeral was held at the Ribeira Seca Cemetery, following a Requiem Mass in the chapel of the Clínica do Bom Jesus.
