Padre Rebelo
This page pays a solemn tribute to the life and work of Padre José Joaquim Rebelo (1900–1987), a multifaceted man of faith who served Ponta Delgada as a priest, teacher, and polyglot. He is most notably remembered as the founder of Catholic Scouting in São Miguel, having established the CNE Group No. 137 in 1937. The biography traces his resilient path, from working as a bookkeeper to support his family following his father’s death to his late yet fruitful ordination. The text also highlights his role as a teacher of Religion and Ethics at the Liceu Antero de Quental and his leadership within the Vincentian Movement, concluding with the local tributes that today preserve his name in the streets of the São Sebastião parish
